Data security and privacy

VirtualAssess DataCollection and DataProcessing Managers are installed on client machines. The applications are using local password protected (by client) databases. Data collection, aggregation, processing and server consolidation scenario modeling is controlled by the clients. No data export is needed.

Distributed Data Collection

Data Collection can be performed in containers of 200 servers. It means that VirtualAssess DataCollection Manager can be installed on multiple machines each of them collecting data from 200 servers. This limitation exists because the collection is performed every minute and the data collection technology used for Windows (WMI) doesn’t allow, at an acceptable performance, to collect data from more than 200 servers. The data collection used for Linux and Unix based systems is SNMP and doesn’t have any limitations.

Non-intrusive data collection

• WMI   for Windows systems (domain admin password is required).
• SNMP for Linux and Unix systems (SNMP configuration is needed)

Data Collection frequency

CPU, Memory, Network Speed, Disk I/O, Disk Space parameters are collected every minute. This allows to an accurate server consolidation using hourly average values as well as hourly 95 percentile values to capture the parameter peeks per hour.

Data aggregation and processing

The collected data from up to 20 DataCollection Managers (up to 4000 servers) is aggregated and processed by VirtualAssess DataProcessing Manager. The aggregation database will contain for each server: CPU, Memory, Network Speed, Disk I/O, Disk Space both average and 95 percentile values. This data is further needed for server consolidation scenario modeling.

Server consolidation scenario modeling

The consolidation scenarios are automatically performed by playing with virtual machines hardware specifications, virtual machines types (production, development, test, etc.), CPU overhead and server variability parameters. Simulated scenario can be instantly reviewed. The automated consolidation scenario can be also manually customized by changing server destination host. Check out VirtualAssess Pro screenshots.

Comprehensive reporting

VirtualAssess DataProcessing Manager can performed the following reports:

• Top utilization reports for each of the parameters: CPU, Memory, Disk IO, Disk utilization, Network utilization
• Individual server reports for CPU, Memory, Disk IO, Disk utilization, Network utilization
• Virtual machines utilization after migration reports
• • Summary VM utilization using average server utilization
  • Summary VM utilization using 95 percentile server utilization
  • Detailed VM utilization graphs - CPU, Memory, Network Speed, Disk I/O, disk Space both average and 95 percentile
